Ribera del Duero DO

The Duero River in north central Spain winds its way westward through the high plateau of Castilla y Leon, and then crosses the border with Portugal to reach the Atlantic Ocean. On this course it travels through some extraordinary Spanish wine regions. One of these remarkable wine districts is Ribera del Duero, home of splendid red wines made primarily from the Tinta Fina grape, otherwise known as Tinta del Pais or Tempranillo. The river moderates the climate and provides sustenance for fine vineyards and other agricultural activities in this otherwise austere, dry region. Thanks to its high altitude, the hot days and cool nights of Ribera del Duero allow the grapes to develop deep colour and intense flavours, hallmarks of the uncompromising wines from this area.
