Navarra DO

Located in northern Spain, bordering France to the north, the Basque Country to the west, Aragón to the east and the Ancient Kingdom of Castile to the south, the historic Kingdom of Navarra is diverse in geography and history. In the northern portions of Navarra, the terrain is very mountainous. Further south the landscape becomes more flat, where Navarre meets the Iberian Central Plain. The climate is influenced by both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The Pyrenees help protect the area from France's Mistral winds. The region of Navarra accommodates two different DOs; one in exclusivity and named after the region: DO Navarra and a much tinier one, partly shared with La Rioja, which is DO Rioja, located in the sub-region Rioja Baja on the basin of the river Ebro.
