Alsace is situated in the east of France, a narrow ribbon of land nestling in the foothills of the Vosges Mountains to the west and the German border to the east. Contrary to other French wine regions, the wines of Alsace are not named after the villages or vineyards from which they come, but after the grape variety. All, must by law, be bottled in the region of production, in the traditional slender Alsace bottle.
