Tuscany's winemaking industry is one of the most noble and ancient industries of the region, predating even the universally known Chianti: a wine that often springs to mind when this region is mentioned. The hilly soil and the weather conditions of the region are ideal for grape growing. With the passing centuries, the numerous types of grapes grown have risen to some rare and much loved varieties. Nowadays, the most grown variety is the Sangiovese, which is often combined with small amounts of locally grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and other grapes into wonderful blends.
